A study on. the correlation between hardiness and compliance with prenatal care in pregnant woman

Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the correlation between hardiness and compliance with prenatal care and to identify factors influencing compliance with prenatal care.
The purpose was to offer strategies of nursing intervention for improving compliance with prenatal care.
The subjects were 192 normal pregnant woman, who selected from three university hospitals and two health centers in Tae gu.
The instruments used for this study was the: Healty-R elated Hardiness Scale (Pollock, 1984).
Data was collected from July 15 to August 10, 1991 using a questionaire and was analyzed ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression.
The results are summarized as follows.
1. The mean level were hardiness (90. 37) and compliance with prenatal care (113.19) in pregnant woman.
2. Correlations among control, commitment, challenge and THRH were all positive significant. (:r= .5744-8616, p= .000)
3. Correlations between hardiness and compliance with prenatal care were all negative significant. (r= -.1967--.2760, p= .000- .003)
4. Factors influencing compliance with prenatal care : Challenge (7. 62%) and frequency of delivery (2. 33%) were to explain only 10% of the variance in compliance with prenatal care.
5. Relationships between hardiness and general characteristics were statically significnnt.
That is, lower frequency of pregnancy, the higher the level of commitmant (P< . 05) ; in large family, the higher the level of challenge (P<. 01) : longer duration of pregnancy, the higher the level of THRH (P< . 05) .
6. Relationships between hardiness and general characteristics were statically significant in primigravida and frequency of delivery (P< . 05).
